  1. I came across this very photo in some family papers today. He was my great great uncle. The family records showed that he died in the Somme?
    How very sad – such a young man (amongst many) with everything to look forward to.

    1. Thanks Jane, we don’t have his death on the memorial, do you have any more details around dates for example.
      As you say, many were so young, and the pictures really show it.

  2. Its an interesting one as Ebden did survive the war. His younger brother Albert Edward did not. Albert Edward Neaverson was killed on the 14th July 1916. Service number 13931, 6th Bttn Northamptonshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Neaverson (nee Blackbourn), of The Chestnuts, Peakirk. Remembered on The Thiepval Memorial to the Missing. Interesting to note that he is not on the Memorial nor the list of those who served.
