Agenda for October Parish Council Meeting

Agenda for October Parish Council Meeting

The next meeting of Peakirk Parish Council will take place on Monday 16th October, starting at 7:30pm in the Village Hall.

At the start of the meeting there will be a short presentation by the Deeping and Glinton Patient Participation Group to raise knowledge of the group and it’s purpose.  Why don’t you come along and find out for yourself?  –  you don’t have to stay for the whole meeting.  The items on the agenda can be viewed here

  1. Hello,
I was wondering if any one can remember the Leeland family? Or has any old photos or letters that could help us?

James C Leeland And Florence Lucy Kirby married in Thornhaugh and used to run the Black Bull pub ( now the Ruddy Duck) in Peakirk. She preferred to go by Lucy rather than Florence.

They had 3 children My grandfather George Leeland and his Twin Dorothy who were 14 in 1935 and went to Peakirk and Glinton school and another girl Lucy.

We are wondering if anyone has any details on James C Leeland – particularly if they know of his middle name or any details about his father William George Leeland. Birth and marriage certs hold no clues.

William is a blank in all historical searches and we can’t find his wife’s name on any document. William had sadly passed away before James and Lucy married so no details there either.

Perhaps this may jog someone’s memory and would be grateful if you could publish this in your local magazine or group.

    Many thanks and kind regards,

    Carrie

    1. Hello Carrie
Thanks for your email. I have received the following initial response from a local historian, Avril Lumley Prior.
“Florence Leeland was the landlady of the Black Bull [aka Ruddy Duck]. She was quite a character by all accounts and ran an impeccably orderly house. She kept cropping up in the oral histories that Greg and I recorded back in the Nineties and Noughties. I included her in a Tribune article. Please, do pass on my email”.
I will leave you to contact Avril – dr.amlumleyprior@btinternet.com
      Kind regards
Angela Hankins (Clerk to the Parish Council)
